Graeme Clegg is a much sought-after motivational speaker within New Zealand and throughout Asia.
As Chairman of the New Image Group he is best known as one of the pioneers of health products and direct selling in the Asia Pacific region with a range of health and nutritional products.
Comprises two main divisions – the direct selling arm trading under the New Image International brand and the wholesale arm trading under the New Image Group brand.
New Image was founded in 1984 by Graeme Clegg. It is New Zealand’s oldest direct sales company and is one of the pioneers of direct selling of health and nutritional products in the Asia Pacific region.
From its base in Auckland, New Image reaches customers through a large group of independent representatives in countries as diverse as Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand and the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan.
Multi-level marketing, or direct selling, avoids the costs of conventional warehousing, distribution and retailing methods and passes good value to the customer and profits directly to the representative. Each New Image representative buys directly from his local New Image company. The representative is, in effect, running his or her own small business with complete control over the destiny of that business.
Initial product offerings were Ultra Diet, developed from the Harvard Medical School concept and based on low carbohydrate intake and K28 – an energy food, developed from the German research scientist and Nobel Prize winner Hans Kreb’s work on the energy cycle of 28 ingredients. The range then expanded to cover vitamin and mineral supplements as well as skincare products.
In the 90s colostrum-based products were added to the range in the form of drink powders, capsules and tablets. Special bio-technologies were developed in-house to improve take-up of the colostrum into the human body.
In recent years New Image has extended it’s nutrition expertise into exciting new fields of adult stemcell products and optimal-aging formulations. New Image is a member of the Direct Sellers Association in New Zealand. Members abide by a code of practice based on the World code. The code covers consumer rights, privacy and information protection, complaints procedures, advertising/after-sales-service, and recruitment of representatives.
In New Zealand the direct selling market is estimated to be worth NZ$283 million in sales with over 94,000 distributors (2013 figures). This is small compared to reported global retail sales of US$178.5 billion for 2013.
The OEM capacity was developed to service the demand for milk powder formulations for a portfolio of domestic and offshore partners. New Image was approved in mid-2014 as one of the small group of accredited manufacturers into China. Formulated by New Image’s team of specialists, our infant formula products are made with premium New Zealand cow’s milk using state-of-the-art wet-blending technology in our 3 manufacturing and canning facilities in the Auckland region. New Image Group continues to develop its capacity to provide infant formula products of the highest quality.
New Image was one of the pioneers in developing colostrum products with the nutritional supplement “Alpha Lipid Lifeline” being one of the first colostrum products to hit the market. This is a product made from the pre-milk fluid produced by mammalian mothers during the first few days after a baby is born. It is the only product in nature specifically designed to boost a mammal’s immune system. New Image uses bovine (cow) colostrum which contains up to 20 times more immune factors than human colostrum. Colostrum is non-species specific and can significantly benefit all other mammals, including humans. Thousands of clinical trials have been conducted confirming colostrum’s health giving properties. Colostrum is taken to help ward off viruses and is taken by many sportspeople to assist in recovery after significant activity when the immune system has been weakened and the body is susceptible to infection.
Over the years New Image has been the recipient of numerous awards. Most recently we are proud to have been awarded the Cawthron Institute Innovation in Science & Technology Award in 2009 and again in 2012. In 2009 we also received the prestigious Natural Products Exporter of the Year Award. More recently (in 2013) we were named as finalists in the New Zealand International Business Awards in the “Most Innovative Business Model in International Business” category. In the same competition we were named as finalists in the “Best Business Operating Internationally – over $50 Million” category.
With most business in overseas territories and in particular in South East Asia, New Image has weathered many ups and downs in these volatile markets. With healthy sales figures in our mature markets and exciting prospects in emerging markets Graeme is optimistic that New Image has a healthy future ahead of it.
